Autonomous vehicles for the people of New York

Every year, hundreds of New Yorkers die and thousands more are injured in traffic crashes, most of which are caused by human error and speeding. It’s a century-old problem, and we haven’t done enough to solve it. Now, with the development of autonomous vehicles that get in significantly fewer crashes than people, we have another powerful tool to make our streets safer.

Autonomous vehicles can make New York safer and more equitable today. Yet state law still bars fully autonomous passenger vehicles from our streets — a restriction we believe is misguided and leaves New York behind on road safety. We can reduce distracted and impaired driving, protect pedestrians and cyclists, fill critical transit gaps, and expand independence for New Yorkers. We just need to give autonomous vehicles a chance, and New Yorkers another choice.
